Tesla Motors
June 29th, 2008, Posted in Organizational Writeups, Tesla Motors by yuchengThis is truly an amazing company, producing electric vehicles that are in the same league as prestigious names such as Ferrari.
In terms of performance, the pick-up of 0-100 km/h in ~4 seconds is incredible, keeping in mind it is an electric powered car. The typical Ferrari production model car has a pick-up in the range of 3.7-4.2 seconds.
For the appearance of the vehicle, it can easily pass off as a new model of Ferrari or Lamborghini, please see pictures at http://www.teslamotors.com/design/gallery-body.php (a picture tells a thousand words).
This vehicle does not have an exhaust, meaning zero emission, which is an indicator of environmental friendliness. Say goodbye to pollution, global warming and all sorts of environmental issues arising from the usage of fuel powered motor vehicles.
Charging of the battery is akin to charging of the mobile phone; plug in the charger at night and it will be ready for use the next day.
However, to owe this beauty, one needs to have a deep pocket. The announced price for the 2009 model is at a whopping base price of USD$109,000, USD$120,000 after all the miscellaneous add-ons. Try imagining how much it will cost in Singapore..
Anyway, it is only available in the US and Europe market now, the development of this technology is still in the infancy stages, there are many plans in store for further enhancements. One day, I really hope that this technology can be made widely accessible to the world in the near future.
Now, I really have a burning desire in me, to test-drive this state-of-art technology.
