Our visit to US MAC brought us many interesting insights into the lives of various entrepreneurs, the fourth and last one being Ms Karla Callahan, President and CEO of Vizyontech Ventures. Intuitively, after sitting through 3 other company talks, you would have thought of us (ileaders) to be on our way to dreamland. However, Karla engaged all of us through her interesting life stories, which proved very much to be a food for thought.

There was a particular part in the talk which struck me hard. She stated that nobody can pay you enough to 1. go to work in a bad company with bad people (boss and colleagues alike), 2. work against your own principles, 3. work 24 - 36 hours, unless it’s for the right reason, namely YOUR PASSION. Throughout her talk, she reiterated the need to be working or doing what we’re doing for the right reasons. Indeed, no one can pay you enough to satisfy you if you’re doing something that you’re not passionate about. How true!

Her noble vision of setting up this company for the greater good really made me respect Karla more. She envisions her company to detect cancer 3-5 years earlier than the present clinical instruments, with a price that is affordable by the masses, ie. the ordinary public.

In addition, her pointers reminded all of us to remember to strive to create products that’s 10 times (or more) better than the present product in the existing market, otherwise, the public may not be that receptive to our new product. She encouraged us to also keep things going despite facing the challenging circumstances when launching a new product. PERSEVERANCE and TENACITY is definitely another lesson that has been emphasized again and again throughout these 2 weeks.
