some thoughts on women entrepreneurs

The second week of road trip started. Now I am waiting for the plane to Houston at the airport, and I began to miss the days when we visited various companies everyday. I am really grateful that I have got this opportunity to visit more than twenty companies with different sizes in different industries. I did learn a lot of things during those two weeks, especially the entrepreneurship spirit.

There are indeed some changes in my view and thoughts. Before this study trip, starting up a company for me is a dream which seems not so realistic. Firstly, 90% of the entrepreneurs we have seen before are men. Also in the traditional view of Chinese people, the happiness for a woman is to do lead a stable life doing housework, supporting husband, raising children, and better with a stable job. And in many cases, successful women entrepreneurs are those who failed in their marriage and then fully devoted herself into her career and finally made a success.

Thus I am always wondering whether those entrepreneurs can successfully balance their family and career, are leading a happy life which they do want to pursuit.

During this trip, I heard many stories and words of wisdom from some women entrepreneurs which inspired me a lot, also I did see some cases in which those women managed to balance their career and family, and lead a desired life. Besides, from Mandeep I see life is so short and we should do something meaningful, follow our hearts to do what we really want, instead of simply reaching others’ expectations, or following the majority in this society.

Thanks for iLEAD program to specially arrange those women entrepreneurs to talk to us, and it is the right time for us girls in iLEAD program to find our own ways.
