This website traces the footprints of iLead delegates, as they embark on the iLead Overseas Study Mission trips to places such as the Silicon Valley in California, US and Shanghai, Beijing and Suzhou in China.

What is the iLead programme about?
The iLead (innovative Local Enterprise Achiever Development) program is part of National University of Singapore’s strategic focus to promote technology entrepreneurship among its undergraduates and also part of NUS Entrepreneurship Centre’s experiential educational initiative. iLead offers NUS students an opportunity to intern at innovative companies and be exposed to the entrepreneurial challenges in Singapore.
Programme Objectives:
- Cultivate entrepreneurial mindset
- Develop leadership & management skills
- Gain insight into the working of the business world<
- Provide opportunities to learn from entrepreneurial leaders.
Structure includes:
- Three months (May to July) of full-time employment
- One semester (January-April or August-November) of full-time employment with time-off to take courses at NUS
- 2-week overseas study mission at the end of attachment period. The first three study missions were to the Silicon Valley, USA.
About the Overseas Study Mission
The overseas study trip is part of the requirement of the NUS ilead programme. A well tailored, highly networked and focused study trip, participants of the study trip will be able to
- Gain first hand exposure to areas with entrepreneurial activities
- Be inspired through interactions with the most enterprising and innovative companies in these areas
- Forge links with like-minded students at local universities.
The study tour includes visits to both big and start-ups companies. Participants will get a chance to:
- Experience first hand how startup companies are formed and the challenges faced by the entrepreneur
- Understand the role play by big companies in the ecosystem, and to gain insight into the differences (eg working culture) between these big companies and start-ups
Study Trips to Silicon Valley
Three study trips were to the Silicon Valley, USA. Companies that the students have visited include: IDEO, Maples Investment, Nanosolar, Plug n Play, Xong, DFJ, Tesla Motor, Microsoft, Baronova, GetQuik, Loopt, Kiva, Techcrunch, Cisco, Google, Meebo, Younoodle, Habitat for Humanity, Nanogram, Benchmark Capital, Youtube, HP, Friendster, Voyage Medical, Qik, Moowee, Ffwd, US MAC, Cataphora,Fenwick & West, Ning, eBay, Reddit, Peanut Labs, Genectech, Sun and Spansion.
